Our Babycation!!

So they say that before you have your first child you should just go get away! So Katie and I decided to do that. We wanted to go somewhere laid back, in the states, and somewhat cooler than Houston. So we got to Denver as fast as we could. I spent many hours leading up to the trip researching what to do. We got on a flight and off we went!!!!!
Our trip started in downtown Denver. We really wanted to go on the Denver Mint tour, but go figure that they were all sold out and had been for quite a while. So we put PLAN B (echo, echo, echo...) into motion. In Golden Colorado, about 20 minutes from downtown the Coors Factory gives free tours. So..... yea. We were on it.

The tours are self guided, and take you through their factory. So very cool. Adolf Coors founded his brewing label when he was just 26 years old... And its been going strong ever since. The Coors label makes many a great beers... Take a look!

From here they take you to the brewing room. They crush up the hops in these GIANT crushers and then fill them with water and magic in these two story copper kettles. Kinda like an adult Wonka factory!! hehehe.

After this room is the lab. The automated thing said that they've moved the lab they use now, but that this one is what they used to use.

After this I got my first free, yea that's right, free beer. When it was all said and done they give you three and a half beers. Pretty awesome!! After my first sample we got to look into the packing part of the plant. This is Katie's favorite part. It's like watching a real life Unwrapped episode!

From here its straight to the bar! Time to enjoy the fruits of their labor!

I totally enjoyed myself. Katie was quite jealous, seeing as how she's pregnant, there was no free beer for her. She was a great sport! After we left the tour we went and ate lunch at this delicious pizza joint two blocks from Coors. From Golden we headed to the hotel. And what a hotel.

We had a mountain view room!! So beautiful. Day and night!

The next day, Saturday, was our favorite day of the trip. Katie and I headed to the mountains!!

Our first stop was in Silver Plume Colorado. An old mining town and home of the Georgetown Loop Railroad. We took the train ride to go on a tour of an old silver mine.

 Nothing like traveling like they did over 100 years ago. Silver was found in this mountain in the 1860s. The Lebanon mine and mining camp was founded in the late 1880s. Before we went down in the mine our tour guide, Walter, showed us the mining camp.

This is Walter and the heater house. They would keep the dynamite in here to keep it from freezing. The miners would hire children for $.75 a day to keep the fire going and to run in supplies to the miners. Below is a picture of the dynamite storage box that would be kept right next to this heater!!!

Obviously this was a good box, because it's still intact!! lol. From here we got to look around the rest of the little camp.

This is a rail line with a timber on it. Walter said it took thousands of timbers like this to just start building a mine entrance.

Finally we got to enter the Lebanon mine. Katie and I got to go first!!

Inside the mine it is always about 44-48 degrees. Outside it was already in the 80s. So it was a nice cool off. The mine tour only goes about 1000 feet into the mine, but the mine goes well over 3000 feet into the middle of this mountain. In this mine there are also 5 different levels. this is level 3. There are 2 above us, and there are 2 below us. The lower 2 levels are completely flooded. Here are a few pictures of the inside.

This is what Walter calls "Dragon's Blood". When water runs over silver in the rock it tarnishes the silver and runs out a black licorice color. Walter said if Colorado would just give him a few days at this spot he'd be a very rich man!!

When they mined 120 years ago there wasn't electricity yet. Each miner was given 3 candles a day to burn in the mine. Walter turned out the lights and light the candle. Men were expected to work for 10 hours a day, swinging sledgehammers at each others head, by candlelight. Crazy.

Our mine tour was so great! If you are ever around the Denver area make the time to go see it. I know that we will definitely go back.

The Loop Bridge

After our train ride and mine tour we headed further into the mountains to the next town of Silverton. Just so happens to be the town where my Grandmom used to own a cabin. I hadn't been up to her cabin since she sold it when I was like 4 or 5 years old.

This is my Grandmom's old cabin. I would give anything for it to be back in the family. As I was taking pictures the owners were outside, so I introduced myself and they were so gracious enough to let us come inside. Only in Colorado would someone let a complete stranger in their home. They are currently remodeling the cabin and it just looks awesome. I don't have many memories, but as soon as I stepped inside it all came back to me! Good times were always had at the cabin!!

The view from the back. Not what I remembered. About 5 years ago Mitch said they had a blowdown and had to remove most of the giant pine trees. Only good thing is now they have a lake view!

The front porch. Christmas, her dog, used to just hang out right here all the time and keep watch out for bears and other critters. Mitch and Sherry said that now the problem is Moose! They just come right up to the house and are not people friendly. Sherry said that they will chase you straight down the road!

I had one more trip down memory lane planned for Saturday. I remembered going to this restaurant that had a diving show in the middle of the place. This place is called Casa Bonita! 

The fact that they dive is pretty cool. The food and entertainment.... not so much. Definitely a place for kids, which is probably why I liked it 24 years ago. 

The rest of our trip was not as action packed. We went up to Boulder and walked around Colorado University and had lunch downtown, and just chilled out by the pool. Coming back to the hotel there was a whole colony of Prairie Dogs!

They were really cool. Just hanging out off the side of the road. The last thing we did was hit up the oldest restaurant in Denver. It's called the...

It was pretty good food. We ate upstairs in the bar area and had some pretty good burgers. They have animals and crazy old stuff everywhere.

Overall our trip was excellent. Makes us want to go live in Denver! We just loved everything and everyone!! Can't wait to go back and take our baby boy skiing one day.

Our First Baby Shower!

We really are blessed that Jeremy has found such a wonderful place to work, with the greatest kids anyone could ask for. Some of the band kids threw us a baby shower today! It meant so much to us that these kids thought enough of us to spend their time and money to put this together. They put up some decorations in the band hall and bought chips and coke for everyone. Games were played and we even got some gifts! I had such a great time and Baby Boy is already SO very loved by more than just us. Be prepared for picture overload :)

This is Mireya. She is going to be our babysitter. We had her pegged as this ever since she was a freshman in Jeremy's band last year. She is a great, great girl and we know she will be a good person to watch Little Gray.

 The Grays...me being normal and Jeremy being, well, normal. LOL!

 Once I got back home I layed everything thing out and this is all the stuff that we got!

I really was just floored at the thoughtfulness and sweet things that these kids did for us. It means a lot to us to know that the kids respect Jeremy as their teacher, and me as his wife (and the colorguard instructor). They really are great kids.

Nursery- Part Dos

We got a lot of things done on the nursery this weekend! We stopped by Hobby Lobby just to look and they had some sports things that we just loved! There was a light switch and an outlet cover that we had to have. One of the pictures won't rotate so just turn your head :)

We also got some bookends to go on his shelves. They are awesome.

My uncle collected baseball cards and signed baseballs, and when he passed away he gave them to me. So I pulled a few of his signed baseballs out to put on Baby Boy Gray's shelf. 

We found a bible verse that we really wanted in his room, so we had it put on a vinyl sticker that you put on the wall. It is Luke 2:40 "And the child grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him."

It turned out really good. It took a lot of patience and time to get it off the vinyl backing and onto the wall, but it looks great!

Our dresser finally came in so that is in there now! I even put some of his things in the drawers.

Of course the puppies were right there with us while we did all of this. They aren't too sure about what's going on yet, but they know something is definitely happening!

It is really coming together! Not too much left to do really. The only big thing we need is the glider. Still searching everyday for one on Craigslist. I can't wait till September!!

Baby Boy's Nursery

The nursery is really starting to come together. It used to be our guest bedroom, but we decided to move the bedrooms around so now baby boy's room is the old guest room.  We had a bunch of stuff to clean out of the closet, like Momma's wedding dress. Can't have that in little boy's room! Here is what his closet looks like now! With all of his little clothes that Mommy and Daddy just can't stand not to buy!

We have decided to go with a vintage sports theme for his room. We like the sports theme but we wanted to go more old school with the stuff in it.
First thing that we bought is the crib! I waited until I had a coupon and off we went to Babies R Us. 7 days later it was here! Jeremy had it put together in about 30 minutes.

 I've been looking on Craigslist everyday to see if I can find a glider/ottoman for pretty cheap on there. Really there are a lot of things that I could buy on there but I must refrain! We finally decided on some bedding after going back and forth with what we wanted to do. Friday night we went to Babies R Us and found our bedding. Well it was more than we wanted to spend for something that we aren't going to use it all. So I resorted to looking on Craigslist for it. Well I haven't seen any bedding on there that I liked, and then Jeremy just happened to check it yesterday afternoon. He says "I found our bedding." And sure enough! There is the bedding that we wanted, with everything included, plus the clothes hamper and some wall decals too! So we emailed them as fast as we could and said "We'll take it!". We picked it up today and could not be happier! You can't even tell that it was used by someone! And that is why I love Craigslist!

We were at Pottery Barn a couple of weeks ago and found a sign that we just loved. Here it is hung up! And yes it has a light behind it! It looks so cool in there, and really goes with everything else we have.

 We also put up 2 shelves from Ikea to put books and other things still undecided on!

But in the span of 2 days we went from not having a whole lot of stuff done in there to being a lot closer. We are going to put a chair rail up, and we are still deciding whether or not to paint. If we do paint though it will only be on the bottom half, under the chair rail. We are going to order the dresser this week, and we still need to find a glider/ottoman. Oh and we still need to buy a mattress for the bed too amongst everything else! :-)

Big News!

Well I know that it has been a really long time since I blogged, and for most of the time that has gone by I really don't have an excuse, lol. But the Gray household does have some very exciting news to share for those who don't know!

WE ARE HAVING A BABY!

Yep! Jeremy and I are expecting our first bundle of joy! We are thrilled and have wanted this for some time now!

It has been a pretty easy pregnancy so far...minus the 4ish weeks where I was nauseous 24 hours a day. For me it wasn't morning sickness, it was all day everyday sickness. But that stopped right around the 2nd trimester and has been very smooth sailing since. Just in the last week I have started to feel him move around, which is the best thing. I am a worry wart and so I constantly worry whether or not he is ok. We borrowed a Doppler from our friend Brittney, so we have been able to listen to his heartbeat whenever we want. That has really eased my mind. And now that I am starting to feel him move that has really made me feel more comfortable. 

I am so excited to be mom to a little boy. I can't wait to take him to soccer and football games. And I just know that he will be a spitting image of my husband, and that makes me very happy :). I think about those two together and it really just makes me smile. Jeremy is such a wonderful husband, and I've known since the day I met him that he would make the world's best dad, so I am happy that he will finally be a dad!
